During the shootout, Jara was killed, while his victim was rescued alive and rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), the incident took place shortly before 4 p.m. as officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at the building. Upon arrival, they discovered the woman critically injured in the upper body.
Yudaisy, originally from Pinar del Río and a healthcare professional, later recounted that the attack came as a complete shock. “We were a couple for ten years, never argued. What happened was unimaginable,” she stated in an interview from the hospital, where she emphasized that surviving was “a miracle.”
The shooting sparked panic among residents of the complex, who recorded the arrival of patrol cars and the Special Response Team (SRT) encircling the building. The footage also shows the interior of the shooter's apartment following the confrontation and the evacuation of the injured.
