This past Saturday, Leticia Ramos Herrería, a prominent member of the White Ladies, was apprehended by State Security in Cárdenas, Matanzas.

According to a post by her son on the opposition figure's Facebook page, "State Security officials and a patrol car took my mother into custody about an hour ago."

The young man shared images that depict the arrest of the White Lady.

"For days, my mother has been peacefully protesting against the plight of political prisoners and the dire circumstances all Cubans face. Last night and early this morning, she voiced strong opposition to the regime, and it seems the informers have been on alert since my mother returned to Cuba," he explained.

He held "the Cuban regime accountable for anything that might happen to my mom, whose health is severely compromised, and who suffers from heart issues."

"They won't silence us; they'll have to kill us," he declared.

Ramos Herrería, the representative of the White Ladies in Matanzas, has consistently faced harassment from the Cuban regime's political police due to her oppositional activities.

For over two decades, the White Ladies have stood as a symbol of nonviolent resistance in Cuba. Their image—women dressed in white and carrying gladioluses during their Sunday marches—has come to represent dignity in the face of oppression.

Under Berta Soler's leadership, the movement has steadfastly continued its activism despite relentless pressure from State Security. Their international recognition came swiftly: in 2005, they were awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament.

Recently, Soler was honored with the Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize 2025 for her ongoing efforts to champion democracy and human rights in Cuba.
