A tragic outburst of violence shook the Allapattah area in Miami-Dade County on Monday when a man fatally shot a woman and wounded another man. The attacker was later killed in a confrontation with police at a different location.
This incident unfolded in two separate scenes: initially near a food truck, and hours later at a hotel where the suspect was found. The violent episode began in the early hours of Monday near Northwest 27th Avenue and 30th Street in Miami-Dade. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), an argument escalated into gunfire.
The shooter targeted two individuals, a man and a woman, who were sitting by a food truck, while a third woman managed to escape unharmed. Security cameras captured the chilling moment of the assault.
Footage shows the attacker exiting a vehicle, approaching the victims, drawing a gun, and firing directly at the woman. "He initially shoots the woman, and when she falls, he shoots her again, then aims at the man and the other woman," Officer Ángel Rodríguez told America Tevé.
The woman died at the scene, and the critically injured man was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The female victim was identified as Jeankerly María Linares Marín, a Venezuelan mother of two young children, a three-year-old girl and an eleven-year-old boy. She had arrived in the United States just seven months prior.
A family source revealed to Univision that she was murdered in cold blood while waiting for a food order. The attacker was a regular customer at the café where Jeankerly worked and had developed a dangerous obsession with her, even monitoring her movements.
Chase and Confrontation at a Hotel
Hours after the shooting, investigators managed to identify the suspect and began tracking him down. Eventually, in the evening, officers located him at the Extended Stay hotel on Northwest 7th Street and 69th Avenue.
"When the suspect exited the unit, he got into his car, and at that moment, officers attempted to apprehend him. Unfortunately, an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in the suspect being shot and killed," explained Officer Ángel Rodríguez.
This encounter took place around 9:30 p.m., and no officers or hotel guests were harmed. However, the incident greatly disturbed those present.
"Last night, I heard shots, but we thought they were fireworks. There were about four or five shots, and then my wife saw police around the hotel, but we didn't know what had happened," commented Michel Lutz, a hotel guest.
The suspect's body was discovered inside the vehicle he tried to flee in and was removed from the scene via tow truck. Authorities have yet to disclose his identity.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation of the shootout that led to the suspect's death, while the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office continues to probe the motive behind the double homicide.
"The investigation is ongoing, and we're trying to determine the relationship between the victims in this case," Rodríguez concluded.
