A video shared by user Yamil (@the.machinery8) on TikTok has left many Cubans both amazed and on edge. The footage, recorded in Cojímar, Havana, shows a Cuban man fishing far out at sea on a makeshift raft crafted from sheets of expanded polystyrene, commonly known in Cuba as "poliespuma." He was knee-deep in the water in a notably deep area.
The highlight of the video is the large snapper he manages to reel in, but it was the inherent risk of the situation that really grabbed attention. Numerous users have issued warnings to Yamil through social media.
"Hey man, get those feet out of the water; you never know what might come after that snapper," cautioned an experienced fisherman. Another individual remarked, "If a shark wants the snapper, things could get dicey." Unfazed by potential dangers, Yamil replied confidently, "It would indeed get dicey, for the shark."
The video went viral not just for the impressive catch, but for the boldness and wit that characterize many Cubans when it comes to "making ends meet" or securing a "good catch."
