Caught on Camera: Cuban Man Confesses to Murder in Jacksonville

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 by Bella Nunez

A chilling video shared on social media and reported by Univision reveals the moment Cuban national Carlos Yordanis Aldana, 38, confessed to the murder of his partner, Yannelis de la Caridad Casales. The surveillance footage, recorded in the early hours of March 30, shows a man descending stairs and opening a door, allegedly admitting, "I killed her!" to a neighbor, who also appears to be of Cuban origin.

The neighbor, shocked by the confession, responded with disbelief, saying, "You’re crazy!" before eventually leaving the scene, refusing to assist Aldana in cleaning up. Captured in a yellow shirt, the neighbor clearly stated his unwillingness to aid the assailant.

Besides the confession, the most harrowing aspect of the footage is the trail of blood left by Aldana, who appeared to be bleeding heavily from his left foot. The confession took place at 3:17 a.m., and 17 minutes later, two officers arrived, following the blood trail to the room where the 30-year-old victim’s body was found with stab wounds.

In a phone call from Cuba, the victim's brother demanded justice, stating, "My sister didn’t deserve this. Nothing will bring her back, so justice must be served." He also commented on Univision’s post, calling for the death penalty for the murderer.

A Tragic Love Story

Yannelis and Carlos first met in Cuba during one of his visits from the United States. Three years ago, while on vacation on the island, Yordanis faced detention due to an unresolved legal issue, though details remain scarce. He served a three-year sentence in Cuba, during which Yannelis moved to the U.S. under the I-220A document. She worked diligently to establish herself, hoping for a future reunion with Carlos.

The couple shared a heartfelt reunion at a Florida airport on March 16, which Yannelis documented on Facebook, captioning the video with, "You are the dream I always prayed for. Welcome home." Tragically, less than two weeks later, in the early hours of March 30, Carlos Yordanis Aldana fatally stabbed Yannelis 15 times for reasons still unknown.

The Aftermath of the Crime

The horrific act took place in an apartment complex in Arlington, Jacksonville, Duval County. When police arrived, they found Aldana with stab wounds on his left hand and shin. He received medical attention from paramedics before being transferred to a local hospital.

Following his release from the hospital, Aldana was taken into custody at Duval County Jail, where he remains detained. The police investigation led officers to the room where Yannelis’s body was discovered, guided by the blood trail Aldana left behind.

Family Speaks Out

In Santiago de Cuba, Yannelis’s father and brother are devastated by the tragic event. Her father, speaking to Telemundo 51, expressed profound grief, questioning how a parent could cope with such a loss, as Yannelis was his only daughter. In disbelief, he stated he never imagined his son-in-law could be violent. He requested assistance in repatriating his daughter’s body.

Friends and family have shared their sorrow on social media and initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and the cost of repatriating Yannelis’s body to Cuba. The fundraising goal is set at $16,000, with $14,191 already raised through 412 donations at the time of this report.
