The Ministry of the Interior (MININT) officials in Tercer Frente, Santiago de Cuba, have apprehended an individual allegedly involved in cultivating a marijuana farm. According to a report on the pro-government Facebook page "Héroes del Moncada," the suspect had cultivated approximately 200 marijuana plants and possessed more than 2,000 seeds.

The discovery took place in a mountainous region where officials identified and dismantled the plantation. The individual now faces charges under Cuba's strict penal policies against the production, sale, or distribution of marijuana. Although authorities have not disclosed further details about the suspect's identity or specific punitive measures, they emphasized their commitment to combat such illicit activities "without any tolerance."

In recent months, pro-regime profiles have increasingly reported on arrests related to drug trafficking and cultivation. This official narrative highlights a concerning rise in these activities across the island. The Cuban government has acknowledged the growing drug trafficking problem, including marijuana and cocaine. An official report from Camagüey revealed a troubling increase in narcotic activities, with seizures indicating the expansion of the illegal drug market.

Recent Drug Busts and Arrests

One of the most significant operations occurred in February, when a drug raid in Havana led to the arrest of dozens at El Curita Park, a known hotspot for drug consumption and sales. Among those detained were several suppliers of "el químico," a low-cost synthetic drug highly popular among Cuban youth.

Besides trafficking, there has been an uptick in arrests for illegal marijuana cultivation. In December, a young man in Gibara, Holguín, was apprehended for growing several plants at his home. Similarly, in November, another individual was caught cultivating marijuana at an unspecified rural location.

Drug enforcement efforts have also made an impact in Matanzas, where police arrested two Cubans transporting 176 packages of marijuana in a vehicle intercepted on the highway to Cárdenas. The suspects, who had prior criminal records, will face prosecution for drug trafficking.
