Truck Goes Up in Flames in Wajay Area of Havana

Monday, March 10, 2025 by Mia Dominguez

On the afternoon of March 8, a truck was engulfed in flames while on a public road in Wajay, Havana. This alarming incident took place near the entrance of the INAV neighborhood, causing concern among both passersby and local residents. According to images circulated on social media, the vehicle, a modern model, caught fire rapidly, seemingly due to an electrical short circuit that ignited the seat.

The blaze raged uncontrollably, and unfortunately, no one was able to extinguish it in time, resulting in the total loss of the vehicle. A thick column of black smoke was visible from a distance. Amid the emergency, supportive citizens stepped in to help. Jorge Moreno shared on social media that he and Saúl Salcedo took charge of towing the vehicle without charging for the service, highlighting that there are still people willing to lend a hand during tough times.

Hours later, a tow truck removed the car from the scene, revealing the extensive damage left by the fire. The bodywork was entirely charred, with severe structural damage, and signs of melting in several areas. This incident is part of a series of recent vehicle fire reports, raising concerns about the condition of many cars currently on the road.

Earlier this year, the explosion of an electric motorcycle triggered a fire that destroyed four cars, including a Lada and two "almendrones," in a garage in Santa Clara, as well as several motorcycles and a repair shop with modern equipment. In Havana, a bus caught fire due to an electrical short circuit, but thanks to the swift response of firefighters, there were no casualties.

More recently, a bus belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces caught fire on a highway in Santiago de Cuba. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, yet the vehicle was completely burned.
