An individual has been taken into custody in the town of Guáimaro, Camagüey, following the alleged murder of his wife by strangulation in the Albaisa neighborhood. The pro-government platform "Verdades a Través del Móvil" revealed on Facebook that the suspect, identified as Yoe Caballero, purportedly carried out the crime at his home while on an authorized leave.

Authorities apprehended the suspect during the night and are investigating the motives behind the crime. The issue of femicide remains a grave concern in Cuba, with a notably troubling rise in cases reported in Camagüey province. These incidents have deeply shocked the Cuban public.

One of the more recent incidents took place on February 4, 2025, when a 54-year-old woman was fatally shot in her residence in the municipality of Vertientes, Camagüey. The perpetrator, described as a masked man, remains at large, leaving the community in distress.

In September 2024, the province was again shaken by tragedy when Annelis Hernández Puerto, aged 47, was murdered by her partner in Florida municipality. This incident raised the count of reported femicides in the country to 38 for that year, according to independent platforms like "Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba" and "Alas Tensas."

On September 13, 2024, Isabel Rojas Aguilera, a 30-year-old woman, was also killed by her ex-partner in the city of Camagüey while retrieving her child's belongings from the assailant’s residence. This crime, along with another reported in Santiago de Cuba, brought the total number of femicides to 37 in Cuba that year.

The escalating numbers of femicides have prompted human rights organizations to continue demanding that the Cuban government enforce effective measures to safeguard women and officially recognize femicide as a criminal offense in the Penal Code.
