Nurse Dismissed from Calixto García Hospital for Leaking Video of Paulo FG After Crash

Saturday, March 8, 2025 by Ava Castillo

The Cuban regime has dismissed a nurse from the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP) at Calixto García Hospital. The nurse is accused of recording and sharing a video of the deceased body of singer Paulo Fernández Gallo, known as Paulo FG. This decision followed an investigation at the hospital, which identified the nurse, a skilled ECG technician, as the person responsible for the footage taken shortly after the artist's death. Paulo FG tragically passed away in an accident on March 1st at Havana's Malecón.

According to Cubadebate, a commission from the Ministry of Public Health interviewed 13 people who had been in contact with the patient. Twelve of them identified the voice in the video as belonging to the ECG technician. Initially, the nurse denied any involvement in distributing the video, but later admitted, "I recorded it, did not pass it to my husband, and will say nothing more."

Although the decision to remove her from MINSAP can be appealed, the nurse was informed that the hospital's director has requested the provincial health director of Havana to initiate proceedings to revoke her professional license. Official spokesperson Humberto López reported on the National Television Newscast that Paulito FG had arrived at the hospital with multiple traumas. Despite efforts from a team of intensivists, general surgery specialists, intensive care nurses, and others to revive the singer, he did not respond to treatment.

The technician allegedly entered a room adjacent to where medical care was administered, covertly recording with her phone concealed in her clothing while making inappropriate remarks, which López condemned as unethical and disrespectful. The regime's spokesperson labeled the act as a "public disgrace" that should "shock us," emphasizing that such incidents should never occur.

Recently, journalist Abdiel Bermúdez criticized the circulation of graphic images related to Paulo FG's fatal accident during a segment on NTV. Bermúdez stressed the importance of distinguishing between public and private matters. He argued that while the internet and smartphones are often blamed for the rise of such behavior, the decision to take photos, film, and share them with others is ultimately a voluntary choice, contributing to what he described as a "yellow journalism wave."

The Tragic Passing of Paulito FG

The tragic accident that claimed the singer's life occurred at the traffic lights of the 12th and Malecón intersection. Reports suggest that the artist's vehicle attempted to merge onto the avenue and was struck by a tourist bus traveling along the Malecón. A doctor on duty at Calixto García Hospital confirmed that Paulo FG arrived in cardiac arrest, and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Born on January 11, 1962, Paulo FG emerged as a pivotal figure in Cuba's popular dance music scene. His career included stints with groups like Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Opus 13, and Dan Den, before founding his own band, La Élite, in 1992. His versatility and charisma made him a genre icon, with hits such as "El bueno soy yo," "Te deseo suerte," "Con la conciencia tranquila," and "Ilusión."
