On Wednesday, Mike Kozak, a prominent figure in the U.S. State Department, engaged in discussions with Cuban human rights activists. These meetings were confirmed by the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the U.S. Embassy in Cuba via their social media presence on platform X.

The discussions included activists such as Carolina Barrero (Director of Citizenship and Freedom), Lilian Lucena (Program Officer at Justice Consortium), Carlos Ponce (Executive Director and CFO of Justice Consortium Inc.), and Javier Larrondo (President of Prisoners Defenders International). They brought attention to the ongoing repression by the Cuban regime against civil society and political prisoners.

Kozak reiterated the United States' commitment to hold the Cuban government accountable until it upholds human rights. "We will continue to hold the Cuban regime accountable until it respects the human rights and fundamental freedoms of its citizens. The United States remains steadfast in advocating for the release of all political prisoners unjustly detained by the regime," stated the official communication.

This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts by the U.S. administration to support human rights defenders in Cuba and promote the release of political detainees on the island. Washington has consistently taken a critical stance against the Cuban government's violations of fundamental rights and reaffirmed its support for independent civil society.

The Cuban activists' reports to U.S. authorities bolster the growing international pressure on the Havana regime to cease repression and ensure the rights of its citizens. Earlier this week, the platform Justice 11J announced that the Cuban regime resumed the release of political prisoners after more than a month of pause and international pressure.

On Thursday, Iván Mauricio Arocha Arocha, Brusnelvis Adrián Cabrera Gutiérrez, Ohaurys Rondón Rivero, and Yaquelin Castillo García were set free. Arocha Arocha's release was part of an official announcement granting freedom to 553 individuals. Cabrera Gutiérrez and Rondón Rivero received conditional release. These releases are the result of negotiations and are integral to the campaign supporting Cuba's political prisoners.
