Two Young Men in Miami Face Charges for Alleged Attempted Murder

Friday, February 28, 2025 by Amelia Soto

Two 18-year-olds have been taken into custody and are facing charges of attempted second-degree murder after being identified as the suspected perpetrators of a shooting in a Miami park's parking lot. The exact reasons behind the incident remain unclear.

The suspects, both of Hispanic descent but with undisclosed national origins, have been identified as Rubén Ayala, who allegedly fired the shots, and Reniery Josué Solís, who was reportedly driving the vehicle from which the shots were fired.

According to the police report, on January 27, one of the youths fired at the occupants of a vehicle at Gerry Curtis Park, located at 19th Street and 24th Avenue in the city's northwest area. Authorities stated that the attack occurred as the victims were parking their car in the park.

"One of the suspects approached and brandished a gun. The driver tried to flee, but shots were fired as they were leaving, and the vehicle was hit several times," explained Mike Vega, a Miami police spokesman, during an interview with America Tevé. He added that one of the victims sustained minor injuries.

A crucial eyewitness managed to capture the license plate of the attackers' getaway car and alerted the authorities. Vega noted that once the police had the vehicle's license plate, they investigated and were informed of the individuals involved. The motive for the attack still remains a mystery.

"We don't know why they shot—whether they knew them or intended to rob them. In this situation, I believe the victim did the right thing by attempting to avoid confrontation and leaving the scene. The victim also had a gun in the car but chose not to use it," the police spokesperson remarked.

Both suspects appeared in Miami-Dade criminal court this Wednesday, facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder. Judge Mindy S. Glazer denied them bail. As of the latest update, no further details about the incident have been released.
