In an unsettling incident in Havana, a local woman found herself the victim of a robbery perpetrated by her neighbor, who has since been apprehended by law enforcement, according to sources linked with the Ministry of the Interior. Facebook accounts supportive of the Minint revealed that the accused entered her neighbor's home in her absence and made off with a refrigerator, a mattress, and other unspecified items.

The authorities have not disclosed the name of the alleged perpetrator, nor have they revealed if she had an accomplice, which seems plausible given the bulkiness and weight of some of the stolen goods. The breakthrough in the case came through an investigation led by the head of the local police sector, which led to the suspect's capture.

The stolen belongings were returned to the rightful owner during a community event organized by the Minint. Such events are often used to highlight police efforts, although their effectiveness has been criticized by the public amid a persistent rise in crime across the nation.

The suspect now faces legal proceedings, as confirmed by an official statement. Over recent years, Cuba has witnessed a sharp increase in criminal activity, further exacerbating public safety concerns.

Crime has surged in both urban and rural areas, with incidents ranging from the theft of equipment at a solar park in Matanzas to violent assaults on the elderly during power outages in Camagüey. In one case, ten individuals were detained for stealing 150 aluminum chairs from the Victoria de Girón Medical School in Havana’s Playa municipality. Meanwhile, another incident involved a woman being arrested at Guardalavaca beach in Holguín province, accused of stealing cash and an iPhone from a man she had been out with.
