Tuesday, February 18, 2025 by Albert Rivera

A destructive blaze erupted in the homes of Placetas, Villa Clara, late Monday afternoon, according to early reports. Both the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) and the Fire Department are actively working to bring the flames under control, as reported by communicator Henry Omar Pérez on Facebook.

Odalys Paz Morales, a journalist associated with the state-run Radio Placetas, confirmed that fortunately, there were no casualties in the fire, which occurred on 1st Street North, between 6th and 7th West. Although Paz described it as a "moderate-sized" fire, she later noted that several homes were destroyed, though she did not provide an exact number. Firefighter teams are on the ground battling the blaze.

Social media is already flooded with videos and eyewitness accounts of the fire. Marlene R. Sandoval shared a post with images suggesting that four houses had already burned because "the firefighters have been unable to control the fire."

One social media user uploaded a video she claimed to have received from a Spanish journalist, stating, "A fire in Placetas, Villa Clara province, threatens to spread as the winds are strong, and firefighters lack water and resources to extinguish it. We remain vigilant. God have mercy."

The post's author highlighted "the community's noticeable passivity, which is no longer surprising." Nonetheless, other posts about the incident reveal the alarm and concern among local residents.

"Group, there's a massive fire on 7th West between the Central Road and 1st North. Help!" pleaded a Placetas resident in a Revolico group on Facebook.

Additional technical support was dispatched to the fire scene from Santa Clara and Camajuaní, as stated by Henry Omar Pérez, who also mentioned that local authorities are present at the site.
