This family, consisting of a couple and their four-year-old son, arrived on April 16, 2024, after being chosen for the welcoming program.
They discovered this opportunity through social media, and after interacting with others who had already taken the plunge, they decided to relocate to this area within the autonomous community of Castilla y León, Spain. Although the transition has been described as "challenging," Arley Pérez and Arnaly Rodríguez express, "it was the right move at the right time." Alongside their son, Axel, they are adjusting to the cultural shifts inherent in living in a new country. Despite the hurdles, they emphasize that "the people are very warm," appreciating the hospitality of the local residents.
The Arraigo Project, established in 2016, aims to rejuvenate rural areas suffering from population decline by integrating urban families into these communities. The project provides guidance to families and entrepreneurs interested in relocating, alongside supporting local municipalities in welcoming and sustaining new residents. Since its inception, it has facilitated the relocation of 50 families in the province of Cuenca and engaged with over 700 interested families.

Another Cuban family of five settled in Lerma, where the local council offered them education, employment, and housing—essential elements for starting their new life in Spain.
