Cuban Artists Challenge Planet Records: "I Made It Without Signing with Ferrante"

Monday, February 17, 2025 by Alexander Flores

The Cuban singer known as Mamá Estoy Brillando has stirred up social media by sharing a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "I Made It Without Signing with Ferrante." This bold statement directly addresses allegations from Italian producer Roberto Ferrante, the head of Planet Records, who recently threatened legal action against him and other young urban artists from Cuba.

The controversy began when Ferrante accused Mamá Estoy Brillando, Velito El Bufón, and Pokercito of spreading false claims about his record label. According to Ferrante, Mamá Estoy Brillando recorded in a Planet Records studio without permission, participating in a remix with Charly & Johayron without a signed contract. Upon learning that he couldn't record without formal agreement, the young artist left the session.

In defense, Planet Records boasted about its YouTube presence, claiming to have the most successful Cuban music channel with two million subscribers. However, several artists countered that Cuban talent doesn't rely on this label and that many have achieved success independently, including Mamá Estoy Brillando, Dany Ome, and Kevincito El 13 or Mawell.

Mamá Estoy Brillando quickly responded, reinforcing his independence with the "I Made It Without Signing with Ferrante" T-shirt. His post was seen as a direct challenge to Ferrante and garnered support from fans and fellow artists like Mawell, Dany Ome, and Lex White.

Mawell, for instance, highlighted that his hit "La Triple M" has surpassed 90 million views on YouTube and 50 million on Spotify without paid promotions. Dany Ome also emphasized his musical independence by sharing footage of a concert where the crowd passionately sang along, making a pointed reference to the ongoing dispute.

Meanwhile, Ferrante has vowed to pursue legal action. "Prepare for a series of serious international lawsuits. Don't come crying to my door later asking for forgiveness and future collaborations," he warned, stating that there would be no second chances this time.
