Friday, February 14, 2025 by Grace Ramos

Cuban singer Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya, popularly known as La Diosa, remains a hot topic on social media as she faces criticism for her English pronunciation, especially following the release of her song "Always Remember Us This Way." Recently, the artist has been subject to mockery and negative remarks both before and after the debut of her new track, which she performs alongside her daughter Reychel.

Amidst the heated discussion about her English language skills, La Diosa took to Instagram to address some of the malicious comments. "None of those who criticized me can even hold a candle to me; they're all just cheap trinkets. I refuse to be ashamed for wanting to grow. See you soon with another one in English. Before you speak ill of me, take a look at yourself first. Handle that envy because there's no cure for that pain. To criticize me, you have to surpass me, achievement by achievement, and be better than me," she wrote.

Her statement was met with applause from many of her fans, who have supported and defended her efforts to expand her artistry beyond the Spanish-speaking audience.

Recently, La Diosa found herself at the center of a controversy over the same topic with Cuban broadcaster and panelist of the YouTube podcast Destino Tolk, Frank Abel Gómez. He harshly criticized her English rendition, commenting that the singer "has too much of a mix for such a poor performance."

After viewing the music video on the popular show hosted by Dominican YouTuber, Frank Abel couldn't contain his laughter and stated, "I'm going to stick with the theory I held from the start. Personally, I believe this is a big lie from La Diosa because it's impossible for the song to be so polished, off-key, out of tune, poorly equalized... In the song, her daughter shines, and she doesn't," he said.

Additionally, he remarked that the artist is capable of delivering a better performance, given her extensive experience with NG La Banda and as a lead soloist. "Please, it makes no sense," he emphasized.

La Diosa has emphasized that her venture into English-language music is both a personal challenge and a strategy to broaden her international audience.
