Zelensky and Trump Discuss Long-Lasting Peace in Ukraine: "Let's Make It Happen"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a "significant" conversation with United States counterpart, Donald Trump, to outline steps towards ending the ongoing war. Zelensky expressed gratitude to Trump for his interest in their collaborative potential and disclosed that Trump shared insights from a recent discussion with Vladimir Putin.

"No nation desires peace more than Ukraine. Together with the United States, we are mapping out steps to halt Russian aggression and ensure a sustainable and reliable peace," Zelensky stated on his social media platform. "As President Trump said, let's make it happen. We've agreed to maintain further contact and plan upcoming meetings," he added.

The Ukrainian leader mentioned an in-depth conversation with Trump about opportunities for peace. "We discussed our readiness to collaborate at the team level and Ukraine's technological capabilities, including drones and other advanced industries," he elaborated. "We also talked about my conversation with [Treasury Secretary] Scott Bessent and preparing a new document on security, economic cooperation, and resource partnership," he added.

This Wednesday, Trump announced an agreement with Putin to initiate "immediate negotiations" aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. He explained that both parties expressed a desire to "stop the millions of deaths occurring in the Russia-Ukraine war" and decided to have their diplomatic teams begin talks without delay.

During the phone conversation, Putin extended a surprising invitation to Trump to meet in Moscow. "Putin and Trump also agreed to continue personal contacts, including organizing a face-to-face meeting," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reported.
