The Provincial Transportation Company of Havana announced on Wednesday that the A97 bus route would be altered owing to the severe deterioration of El Usillo Road in Playa municipality. This modification, affecting the section from 100th Street to Puentes Grandes, will take effect at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, and will remain until the road conditions are deemed safe for the regular route.
On their Facebook page, the company shared the revised itinerary for the altered segment:
Outbound: Avenue 51 to 26th Street, then Boyeros and 100th Street, resuming its regular path.
Inbound: 100th Street to Boyeros, continuing through 26th Street and Avenue 51, before rejoining its normal route.
The transportation company urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while navigating these roads to prevent accidents.
In January, Cuba's Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, acknowledged the prolonged deterioration of the nation's road infrastructure. He emphasized that this issue has tangible consequences, not only materially but also in the increased frequency of accidents and their outcomes.
Rodríguez Dávila noted that although it is difficult to quantify precisely, the condition of the roads significantly affects accident rates and vehicle wear and tear. "The poor state of many of our roads directly contributes to accidents and vehicle deterioration," he stated.
The minister elaborated that while highways and major roads receive more attention, the condition of peripheral roads remains a significant concern.
