Cuban Found Dead in Mexico: Mother in Miami Demands Justice and Repatriation

Monday, February 10, 2025 by Ethan Navarro

A Cuban citizen from Miami was discovered deceased in Mexico under mysterious circumstances that remain unresolved. This tragic event has deeply affected his family, particularly his mother, who is calling for justice and the swift return of her son's remains.

On February 7, in the Bellavista neighborhood of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, the lifeless body of a man was found inside a black Alfa Romeo with Florida license plates, as reported by the local outlet, Canal 44. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Diredmy Herrera Agüero, showed signs of violence, including gunshot wounds, and was found bound.

The discovery was made at the intersection of Begonias and Pípila streets, near the Acequia Madre, after locals alerted authorities about a car on fire. At the scene, a spent bullet casing was located, though the caliber has yet to be determined.

Diredmy's mother, Kiri, who resides in Curaçao, has made a desperate plea on social media following her son's tragic death in Ciudad Juárez. She criticized media reports suggesting her son was without family, demanding answers and justice.

“My son is not an orphan; my son has a mother,” she declared in a heartfelt video, demanding accountability for the crime. Kiri has unsuccessfully tried to contact various U.S. authorities to arrange for her son's body to be repatriated, fearing that his remains might end up in a mass grave due to inaction.

In her video, she clarified, "I am not in Cuba," emphasizing her commitment to managing the situation. Univision 23 journalist Mario Vallejo has joined Kiri’s call for assistance, urging his followers in Mexico to help in recovering the body.

"This Cuban mother has been living in Curaçao for years. She found out through the Mexican press that her son was murdered in Mexico. She has done everything possible to recover his body but is being given the runaround. I need help from Mexico to ensure the mother can retrieve the body," Vallejo stated on social media.

According to the outlet X Juárez, Diredmy Agüero's case is shrouded in questions. One of the most puzzling aspects is that the vehicle involved bore Miami plates, raising uncertainties about whether the young man lived in Ciudad Juárez or had recently arrived from the United States.

Additionally, the victim's immigration status and the legal standing of the vehicle remain unclear, complicating the investigation. So far, the Cuban Consulate in Mexico has not confirmed if it is coordinating with local authorities to provide consular support in the matter.
