On February 8th, actor Richard Gere was honored with the International Goya Award for his remarkable career. In his acceptance, he did not hold back his sharp criticisms of U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking at a press conference in Granada, Gere, who resides in Madrid with his wife Alejandra Silva, expressed grave concerns about the global impact of Trump's decisions, stating, "The entire world is at risk."

"The American public chose this president, that's undeniable, but I doubt even his supporters expected the actions he's taken. We are in dark times in the United States, and it's essential for all of us to stand up against this dangerous alliance of money and power," Gere remarked. Known for his role in "Pretty Woman," Gere extended his critique beyond Trump to the wealthy elites surrounding him, whom he called "immature, narcissistic clowns, a lethal combination," directly naming business figures such as Elon Musk.

"It's irresponsible and corrosive to have billionaires leading the United States; it's a threat to the entire planet," the actor concluded. On a more personal note, Gere shared his admiration for independent cinema and his aspiration to collaborate with Pedro Almodóvar. He also highlighted his friendships with Spanish actors, notably Antonio Banderas, whom he praised as "generous, talented, and charming."

While accepting the Goya award, Gere stated, "I come from America, which is in a very dark place, where a bully is president, but it's not just happening in the U.S." He urged his audience to remain vigilant, energetic, brave, and courageous, warning that challenging times are approaching for the entire world.
