The Cuban presenter and activist Alexander Otaola has called for the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) to be classified as a "terrorist group." Through his social media platforms, Otaola expressed gratitude to Republican Senator Rick Scott for his support in intensifying sanctions against the Cuban regime and advancing the fight for freedom for the Cuban people.

"Thank you, Senator @scottforflorida, for your commitment and determination to help achieve freedom for the Cuban people. It is time to act decisively. 2025 is the year of freedom for Cubans," Otaola stated on Instagram, accompanying his message with an image of a handwritten note from the legislator, expressing willingness to collaborate on the cause.

Otaola's post also contained a clear message: "Cuba is a threat to the national security of the United States. The PCC should be declared a terrorist group in the hemisphere. Steps for change now!" His plea comes amid renewed pressure on the Cuban government from U.S. lawmakers and the Trump administration, with Cuban-American Marco Rubio leading the State Department.

Recently, Republican Senators Scott and Tommy Tuberville reintroduced the Denying Earnings to the Military Oligarchy in Cuba and Restricting Activities of the Cuban Intelligence Apparatus Act (DEMOCRACY, as per its acronym in English). This legislative proposal aims to strengthen economic sanctions, hinder financial activities of the island's security apparatus, and ensure uncensored internet access for Cubans. Scott remarked that the Cuban regime is "the root of instability in Latin America and a constant threat to U.S. national security."

Otaola, who has become one of the most vocal figures within the Cuban exile community, has championed various initiatives to sanction Miguel Díaz-Canel's government and limit its funding sources. His call to label the PCC as a terrorist organization reinforces the stance of exiles and lawmakers seeking tighter restrictions on the totalitarian power structure that has dominated Cuba for over six decades.
