On Thursday afternoon, a fire engulfed a bus in Havana after an electrical short circuit ignited the flames. The affected bus, numbered 5005, was part of the Unidad Empresarial de Base (UEB) Terminal Playa and had served various terminals since its arrival in 2007 from the UEB Terminal Lisa.

The Facebook page "Transportación Habana TH" expressed regret over the loss, emphasizing the bus’s significant role in the city's public transportation network. "Yesterday, the beloved bus 5005 embarked on its final journey. This stalwart companion has been a cornerstone at numerous terminals, ferrying countless individuals to their destinations," the page noted in a metaphorical statement on social media.

Fortunately, the fire resulted in no casualties, thanks to the swift response of firefighters who managed to control the blaze, preventing further destruction.

The Aftermath of the Bus Fire

Images captured during the incident depict the bus engulfed in flames at night, with an intense fire consuming its entire structure. Several videos taken at the scene highlight the fire's magnitude, with large flames illuminating the surroundings.

After the fire was extinguished, a photo revealed the bus's devastating condition: a charred metallic frame, roofless, with the vehicle's front severely damaged. The burnt remains underscore the fire's intensity, marking a total loss of the unit.

As of now, there are no reports of authorities launching an investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident or assess the condition of other public transportation units that might have similar faults.

This incident occurred on the same day as a separate bus fire involving a Transtur vehicle carrying Czech tourists near the Topes de Collantes viewpoint in Sancti Spíritus province, with no reported casualties.

The bus was transporting 20 tourists, two drivers, and a translator on an excursion to the mountainous area of Trinidad municipality, according to Yensy Turiño, director of Transtur in Sancti Spíritus, as reported by the official Escambray newspaper. The vehicle was completely burned, and the tourists lost some of their belongings.
