Eduardo Sosa, a prominent Cuban troubadour, is in critical condition after experiencing a stroke, as reported by sources close to his family. Sosa, who was in Guantánamo participating in the Theatrical Crusade and fulfilling his duties as Vice President of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), was urgently admitted to a local hospital where he is receiving specialized medical care.

"Sosa suffered a stroke; he's been in the operating room since 4 a.m. yesterday and has yet to come out. Díaz-Canel dispatched two neurosurgeons on a plane to Guantánamo because they haven't been able to move him. His condition is critical with slim chances of survival," stated fellow troubadour Erick Sánchez Rodríguez.

According to information shared by Carlo Figueroa from UNEAC in Sancti Spíritus, colleagues in Guantánamo have indicated that "the next few hours are crucial." He elaborated that while the surgery achieved its immediate goal, it didn't address the underlying issue of the stroke. "All necessary medications for his treatment are available. The first six hours post-surgery are vital. Now, everything hinges on how his body responds," he added.

At 52, Sosa is recognized for his contributions to the Nueva Trova movement and for his influential role in Cuban music, marked by profound lyrics and a strong allegiance to the Cuban government, even serving as a deputy in the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP). His health crisis has sparked significant concern among followers and fellow artists, who have been expressing their support on social media platforms.

"Nawito! Get better; there's still much to accomplish and confront in this field and in life! Strength, health, and positive energy, warrior," wrote fellow troubadour Heidi Igualada on Facebook.

As of now, no official updates on his condition have been released. Meanwhile, fans of his music are hoping for a successful recovery.

In 2018, his album "Allá voy" won the Contemporary Song category at the Cubadisco Awards, the most prestigious event in the Cuban music industry. Additionally, in 2019, the music video for "La Bayamesa," performed by Eduardo Sosa along with Annie Garcés and Luis Franco and directed by Joseph Ros, received the Best Photography award at the Lucas Awards, which honor the most significant achievements in Cuban musical audiovisuals.

Throughout his career, Sosa has been a pivotal figure in Cuban music, participating in numerous festivals and cultural events, and collaborating with various renowned artists. His dedication and talent have earned him respect and admiration from both the public and his peers in the artistic community.
