"Sosa suffered a stroke; he's been in the operating room since 4 a.m. yesterday and has yet to come out. His condition is critical with slim chances of survival," stated fellow troubadour Erick Sánchez Rodríguez.
According to information shared by Carlo Figueroa from UNEAC in Sancti Spíritus, colleagues in Guantánamo have indicated that "the next few hours are crucial." He elaborated that while the surgery achieved its immediate goal, it didn't address the underlying issue of the stroke. "All necessary medications for his treatment are available. The first six hours post-surgery are vital. Now, everything hinges on how his body responds," he added.
At 52, Sosa is recognized for his contributions to the Nueva Trova movement and for his influential role in Cuban music, marked by profound lyrics and a strong allegiance to the Cuban government, even serving as a deputy in the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP).
