In an inspiring act of generosity, a resident of Holguín has stepped forward to donate blood to children battling cancer, highlighting that compassion endures even during difficult times. Ernesto Almaguer Díaz made his offer public on Monday through his Facebook profile, expressing his willingness to give blood to the Oncology and Oncohematology patients at Holguín's Pediatric Hospital.

"If anyone knows of a child in need of a donation, I am O+. Please have the parents contact me at 53567540," he posted. In a nation where shortages have driven some to sell their blood as a means of survival, Almaguer emphasized that his sole purpose is to help, expecting nothing in return. "I only accept gratitude," he declared, underscoring the true essence of solidarity in times of crisis.

Last September, Bricella Hernández, known for her dedication to charitable causes, reported in the Facebook group "Blood Donations in Cuba" that a person named Mirelys Masoucos Godínez was offering O- blood for 6,000 pesos. In her report, Hernández stressed that the Facebook group is comprised of selfless individuals united by the desire to help, not for those aiming to profit by selling blood.

However, there are individuals who view blood donation as a purely altruistic act. Amidst year-end festivities, the selfless commitment of Rigoberto Montoya Rubio, a member of the Club Montaña in Santiago de Cuba, did not go unnoticed. Confronted with a medical emergency involving two children injured in an accident, he responded promptly to the urgent call for blood donation.

The incident took place when the Club Montaña was alerted to the need for O- blood for the youngsters, prompting Montoya to head to the Provincial Blood Bank without hesitation, reaffirming his unwavering support for the community.

In another remarkable gesture, just this past January, twenty blood donors came together to save the life of a 24-year-old woman from Pinar del Río diagnosed with leukemia.
