Charges Dropped Against Former Otaola Treasurer Andy Santana: "Welcome Aboard"

Saturday, February 1, 2025 by Isabella Rojas

Prosecutors in Miami-Dade have officially dropped the charges against Andy Santana Zamora, the former treasurer for Cuban influencer Alex Otaola's campaign. Santana was initially arrested in October 2024 on allegations of sexual activity with a minor. A closing memorandum from the State Attorney's Office, released on Friday, indicated that the 17-year-old who filed the complaint recanted in November, asserting he was coerced by a masked individual into making the accusations against Santana.

The document further revealed that the complainant expressed concerns for his family's safety in Cuba and confirmed there was no evidence of sexual conduct or drug use involving him and Santana. The prosecution also mentioned that the young man reiterated his retraction during an interview with Telemundo and on an Instagram post.

"Being part of the winning team took its toll on you; but the nightmare is over. Justice has spoken! To all those who have participated in the smear campaign, the attacks with the intent to harm us, I just say I'm waiting for your retraction videos. Welcome aboard, Andy Santana," declared Otaola on his social media accounts.

He also addressed those allegedly involved in plotting against his political ambitions related to the Miami mayoral race and his role as an activist denouncing the Cuban dictatorship, labeling them as discredited and defeated in this sordid affair.

While Otaola expressed joy over the decision and chastised those who promoted the allegations, Santana's lawyer has remained silent regarding the prosecutor's resolution. "I am delighted to know that everything has been clarified and there is no room for doubt. We keep winning!" exclaimed the Cuban influencer, also demanding apologies from those who attacked his campaign team.

Santana Zamora, who had maintained his innocence since his arrest, was detained on October 3 and taken to the TGK jail in Miami-Dade. At that time, Otaola had voiced his disapproval of the case, emphasizing that everyone should be accountable for their actions. Now, with the charges dismissed, the former treasurer can resume his life without the shadow of the accusation.
