A massive fire erupted on Tuesday afternoon in Las Cañas, the main municipality of Artemisa, severely damaging two homes and leaving a family of five, including two children, without a place to live. According to reports from the newspaper Artemisa, the blaze was sparked by an electrical short in a water heater, which ignited one of the homes. The shared walls between the houses enabled the fire to quickly spread to the neighboring residence.

The first home, which housed the family of five, suffered complete destruction. Its roof and woodwork were entirely ruined, and the walls experienced significant damage, with some sections even collapsing. The second home, still under firefighting efforts, also sustained severe damage to its roof.

Firefighting teams from the municipalities of Güira de Melena and Alquízar were dispatched to the scene to combat the flames. The Provincial Directorate of Aqueducts and Sewers coordinated a steady supply of water trucks to expedite the firefighting operations. Remarkably, no fatalities or injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Despite the devastation, local authorities along with the Ministry of the Interior are on-site to ensure the necessary support for the affected families. They are evaluating steps for relocation and recovery measures.
