A Cuban man, Carlos Alberto González, tragically lost his life after being shot by his Miami-Dade County landlord in Westchester over a disagreement regarding a thermostat. The incident, which escalated into a physical altercation, occurred last Thursday. González, aged 57, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head inflicted by his landlord, 37-year-old Adam Louis Anson.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO) reported that deputies responded to a shooting call on Southwest 17th Terrace around 8:00 am on January 23rd. Upon arrival, they discovered González critically injured. He was immediately taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Shooting Incident Details Emerge

According to the arrest report cited by local media, Anson approached the efficiency apartment he rented to González on the east side of his house while armed with a semiautomatic pistol. He attempted to gain entry by banging on a window, intending to adjust the air conditioning thermostat. Authorities stated that González opened the door, at which point Anson forcibly entered, unprovoked, and began assaulting him. Anson then dragged González to the backyard and shot him multiple times in the head.

Following the shooting, Anson re-entered the efficiency, adjusted the thermostat, and returned to his residence, where he later called 911. He claimed to the operator that González had attempted to attack him, prompting him to use his firearm in self-defense.

Legal Proceedings and Community Reaction

Anson was taken into custody on Saturday for questioning and was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery. During his court appearance on Sunday, the judge denied him bail. Anson remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade.

Cuban journalist Mario Vallejo shared details of the tragic event on Facebook, quoting a neighbor, Leyani Pérez, who witnessed the aftermath. Pérez described González as "a hardworking truck driver who had just returned from work at 5 am." She recounted that the perpetrator "beat him, dragged him to the edge of my fence, shot him in the head and at my house, then dragged him out of his house, went inside, and fixed the thermostat."

Sonia Martín, a close friend of the victim, mourned his death, expressing, "Rest in peace to the wonderful person Carlitos was, as his friends affectionately called him. May God and the law take control of what happened, our deepest condolences to his family and wife."
