Tuesday, January 28, 2025 by Samantha Mendoza

The American TikToker Alicia la gringa, known on social media as @alicialagringamarrero, has found herself at the center of an online storm after posting a video where she mimics the style and accent of the well-known Cuban influencer, Flor de Cuba. The short parody sparked a wave of criticism, particularly from Cuban users, who labeled the imitation as inappropriate and offensive.

In light of the backlash, Alicia released an apology, shedding light on her intentions with the video. "I create content in Spanish using various accents because I'm American and I'm learning Spanish. The Cuban accent is very unique and challenging for me to speak. When I started imitating that girl, I felt amused trying it," she explained.

She further clarified that her content aims to explore different accents and learn from diverse cultures, yet admitted that her approach might have been misguided. "Perhaps the way I did it wasn't the best because there are a lot of Cubans who are really offended. But I have nothing but respect for her. I love Cubans and Cuban culture," she asserted.
