Cuban TikToker Sparks Debate by Defending Trump as Solution for Immigrants

Monday, January 27, 2025 by Charlotte Gomez

A Cuban TikTok user, identified as @i.am.ivey, has ignited a heated discussion after posting a video in which he expresses his belief in Donald Trump and his immigration policies. In the video, he states, "This video might not please everyone, but look at the new president who has returned, Donald Trump. There's a reason he's back, because he did things right."

The TikToker shares his conviction that Trump will bring a resolution for immigrants' issues: "He will solve our immigration problems. I'm telling you, he will solve them. When I entered with him, I came in with my paperwork, everything was in order. There was a process to gain residency. Now, you end up in an immigration limbo without papers or anything."

He also praised Trump's first term, claiming the economy was more stable and life was better: "With Trump, gas was cheap, there was work, everything was fine. Everyone felt good. This is the man who will fix the problems."

Regarding recent immigration measures, such as the reactivation of the border wall and the end of the Humanitarian Parole, he remarked: "What he's doing with the border is to ensure people enter in an organized manner. It might seem tough now, but eventually, he'll say, 'Okay, let's have everyone enter through the proper channels,' because I entered legally with him, and I had my papers."

The video sparked a wave of responses, both supportive and critical. Some echoed his sentiments: "We don't need a friend to party with; we need opportunities and a strong economy, and he's the best for that"; "I also entered under Trump in 2017, and I agree with you. He's straightforward and calls things as they are"; "The issue is that in Cuba, they are taught to hate all American presidents against the communist system and even blame Trump for Cuba's problems, not Canel"; "Without a doubt, this is the man," they said.

However, many criticized his viewpoint or offered contrasting opinions: "You were lucky, but many people were detained for up to two years and still don't have papers"; "I've always followed you, but I have nothing in common with Trump; he won't solve anything, and I have a son in Cuba. If you don't have family there, it doesn't matter"; "The economy isn't everything, and I'll wait for your video saying nothing has changed"; "At one point, I thought the same, but I can't get over the sadness of seeing so many terrified and those who waited for CBP and parole"; "This man won't solve anything, don't be blind"; "Those who entered legally through CBP one and humanitarian parole are now being targeted, many work and pay taxes just like anyone else, and it's not fair," others added.

Some highlighted the ongoing challenges and skepticism towards Trump's policies: "Things remain unchanged, eggs are expensive, and we'll see who picks the tomatoes without immigrant labor. Prices will keep rising"; "The worst thing is putting trust in a mortal man."

It's evident that Trump's presence continues to polarize opinions, especially among immigrants. Can these policies truly address immigration issues, or will they only heighten uncertainty? The debate remains open.
