Shannon Depararra Atkins, a 46-year-old resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, was apprehended on Friday, the 24th, on charges of making online threats against former President Donald Trump. The FBI was alerted on January 20th about violent posts from Atkins' social media, which initiated an investigation leading to his arrest.

The alarming posts, shared and submitted as evidence by social media users, included statements such as, "America needs a good bullet to be saved" and "I hope and pray someone kills him." Authorities did not disclose the full extent of the threats or any potential plans Atkins might have had but confirmed there was no indication he attempted to approach Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, situated mere miles from his Palm Beach residence.

Investigation and Arrest Details

Atkins was taken into custody following a traffic stop at 7:30 p.m. on Friday near his home. During the operation, he was driving a BMW and was found in possession of cocaine, resulting in an additional drug charge. Atkins is currently detained without bail at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Main Detention Center.

He faces second-degree charges for making written or electronic threats with the intent to kill, cause bodily harm, conduct a mass shooting, or commit an act of terrorism. Due to the nature of the threats and Atkins' proximity to Trump's residence, the FBI and West Palm Beach police have handled this case with utmost seriousness.

Federal Involvement and Legal Proceedings

The Secret Service has been notified, and they will determine if federal charges should be pursued. As of now, the public defender's office representing Atkins has not commented on the proceedings.

The FBI played a crucial role, as the initial alert came from an Okeechobee, Florida resident who reported Atkins' posts to the federal agency's threat center. The swift investigation enabled the authorities to locate the suspect within days. During his arrest, Atkins admitted to making the posts, though the specifics of his confession remain undisclosed.
