Farewell Tribute to Late Singer in Santiago de Cuba

The remains of Santiago de Cuba musician Luis Magarola Reyes were laid to rest in a heartfelt and unique farewell at a funeral parlor in Santiago de Cuba on Saturday night. A funeral serenade to the tune of “Lágrimas Negras” filled the space with music and applause as family, friends, and admirers sang along to the iconic song in his honor, as reported on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta.

This tribute, which momentarily paused the grieving in nearby chapels, was a homage to a man who spent over 20 years bringing joy to the hearts of Santiago's audience. Luis Magarola was the spirit of the “Década Prodigiosa” gathering, an artistic venue where romantic music and boleros found a welcoming home in Santiago de Cuba.

As the son of a member of the legendary Dúo Hermanas Reyes, Luis Magarola Reyes inherited his musical talent from his mother, which he lovingly shared with his community. Remembered as a respectful, affectionate, and kind man, his artistic and human legacy remains indelible in the memory of those who knew him, as reflected in numerous expressions of sorrow over his passing.

His presence was pivotal in cultural centers across the city, including the Capitolio Cultural Center and the Pista Pacho Alonso Cultural Center. "Santiago de Cuba owes you gratitude for sharing your art until your last days. God shows you His Glory... Rest in peace, magician," wrote a friend and colleague on Facebook.

"When you hear about the passing of someone you knew, it surprises and saddens you, but when it's someone with whom you shared great and unforgettable moments, the pain is immense," expressed Odalys Morales. The late musician's remains were interred on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
