Saturday, January 25, 2025 by Olivia Torres

The number of students hospitalized due to gas inhalation at Matanzas's José Luis Dubrocq Pre-University Institute has climbed to 22, according to recent reports from the regime. A Facebook update from the provincial government revealed that those affected, aged between 15 and 18, were taken to the Eliseo Noel Caamaño Provincial Pediatric Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Of the 22 students, 12 are in the Respiratory Ward, 4 are receiving Intermediate Care, and 6 are under Observation, with no current threat to their lives. The incident unfolded on Friday on the school's second floor, where several students began experiencing dizziness, breathing difficulties, and skin redness after detecting a strong gas odor.

In response to the emergency, the school was evacuated, and the affected students received prompt medical attention. Initially, at least seven students were admitted to the hospital, as reported by the official newspaper, Girón.

Local authorities, including the Communist Party of Cuba, the Government, Provincial Education, and the Ministry of the Interior, have established a commission to investigate the gas leak's origins. However, student testimonies suggest the odor might have been caused by a substance resembling acrylic, which quickly spread throughout the building.
