Cuban Man Removed from Guardalavaca Beach Sparks Outrage

Saturday, January 25, 2025 by Daniel Colon

A Cuban YouTuber, known on his channel as “Luix Alkimista,” captured a live moment when he was forced to leave a beach in Guardalavaca, located in Holguín Province. The footage shows a security officer approaching and politely stating, "You can't be here." When the content creator responded that neither he nor his partner were using any "sunbeds or anything," the guard, whose official position remains unclear, replied, "Nationals are not allowed here."

The YouTuber questioned the absence of any signs or notices indicating such restrictions. The officer further clarified that those wearing "green wristbands" were also prohibited from entering the area. These wristbands typically identify local hotel guests, suggesting that even Cubans staying at the hotel were barred from accessing the beach, based on the explanation provided.

"We can't be on the beach; it's exclusive for hotel guests. This is my country, my people, this is Cuba," the young man told his followers before ending the broadcast, expressing his frustration. "Then they don't want us to get upset, my friend," he concluded, without identifying the hotel involved.

The video has been shared across various forums, sparking numerous comments. Many outraged Cubans complained about the ongoing nature of such incidents, while others noted that these occurrences are not new and will persist unless Cubans genuinely challenge the regime. This is not the first time a similar incident in Guardalavaca has gone viral.

In March of the previous year, two Cubans enjoying Guardalavaca Beach were removed by the police. The embarrassing scene was captured by a young woman, who shared a photo showing three officers speaking with two elderly men by the sea. "You can't just lie on the sand sleeping because there are foreigners on the beach who shouldn't see the ribs that show how hungry you are. They were there not bothering anyone, but eventually, they were removed," the witness described.

"Oh, Cuba, every day you belong more to those who pay to see you, to those who collect that money, and much less to those born on your lands," she lamented.

Recurrent Discrimination Against Cubans in the Tourism Sector

Social media frequently exposes cases of discrimination against Cubans in their own country, where degrading policies continue to humiliate national citizens in favor of foreigners. In February of the previous year, a young man shared his experience of discrimination at the Pernik Hotel, also in Holguín, when he attempted to sit near an outlet to work on his laptop.

In another incident, photographer and YouTuber Yander Serra reported being denied entry to the Capri Hotel in Havana and was told he could only be served after foreign guests. In a separate unfortunate event, a man walking down a street in El Vedado, Havana, was removed from the sidewalk outside the Grand Aston Hotel, run by the military consortium GAESA. "The guard knows that with the pathetic salary we get in Cuba, I can't even afford to look at the hotel, but damn, the sidewalk, even if it looks nothing like any in Havana, isn't part of the hotel, it's part of Cuba," he emphasized.
