Cuban Entertainers Honor José Téllez After Sudden Passing: "He Was a Joyful Soul"

The unexpected passing of José Téllez has left a void not only among his loved ones but also within the circle of colleagues he worked alongside in the realms of acting and comedy. Cuban entertainers have paid tribute to the beloved comedian by sharing fond anecdotes, humorous memories, and most importantly, celebrating his charismatic nature and kind-hearted personality.

“I met him on stage, in the studios, many years ago. From the very first moment, there was a chemistry that has lasted until today and will continue forever, a bond that is rare these days. The words brotherhood and friendship are profound, and I experienced that with José,” expressed Carlos Marrero, known as “Pillín.”

Alexis Valdés highlighted, “José Téllez was an admirable person because he was born with a physical disadvantage, a potentially challenging image to navigate the world. Yet, instead of victimizing himself or allowing others to ridicule him, he decided, 'I'll be the first to laugh at myself... instead of laughing at me, we'll laugh together.'”

For comedian Omar Franco, also known as El Chico Bombón, Téllez’s ability to embrace his unique stature allowed him to see the brighter side of life and make people laugh, rather than dwelling on darkness. “José brought laughter to many, and I know that joyful memory will forever be cherished,” Franco noted.

Mónico Pino fondly recalled their reunion in Miami after many years apart, sharing that the news of Téllez’s sudden death was a significant shock. “He didn’t deserve it; he was a happy, joyful person. Wherever he went, he had a gift—he’d open his mouth, and everyone would laugh,” Pino reflected with a smile.

José Téllez was found deceased in his Miami apartment on January 15th, with the cause of death still undisclosed. His funeral took place this week in Miami, leaving a legacy of laughter and joy.
