A teenage girl and her mother, who were brutally attacked with a machete by the girl's father and the woman's former partner, are on the mend from their injuries. This violent incident took place on January 16 in the Guisa municipality of Granma, specifically in the Los Pajales neighborhood near a place known as La Ovejera.
According to a Facebook post by user Manuel Viera, both victims are recovering well. "The physical wounds will likely heal quickly, but the psychological scars, especially for the young girl, will take much longer to heal," Viera noted.
The assailant, identified only as Israel, took his own life after committing the crime. He had been previously accused by the girl—initially reported as his stepdaughter—of sexual abuse and was imprisoned as a result.
"Upon his release, he attacked the mother and daughter with a machete before hanging himself. There are differing accounts, with some suggesting the stepdaughter's accusation was false, while others describe him as abusive to his partner," Viera elaborated in earlier reports.
Both mother and daughter were admitted to Bayamo hospital following the attack, which left the community in shock.
Judith Miniet, a local resident, shared, "My son was at the clinic when they arrived. He said the girl, who is 15, was in the worst condition. A woman who accompanied them mentioned that the girl's arms were almost beyond saving."
"The first ambulance took the critically injured girl. Her mother followed in a second ambulance with head and abdominal injuries. They had both lost a significant amount of blood and were in grave condition, though the girl's situation was more severe," Miniet added.
