The sixth cold front of this winter season is currently causing rain and storms in western Cuba as it progresses eastward. The Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) shared an image on Facebook showing the front positioned over Matanzas at 2:00 pm.

"There is a noticeable thermal contrast across the Cuban territory. In the west, temperatures are ranging between 19 and 22°C, whereas in other parts of the country, they exceed 30°C," the post elaborates.

According to the latest report from the institute, the system moved into western Cuba in the early hours, prompting showers and rain, particularly in Pinar del Río province. The highest rainfall recorded was 10.4 millimeters, measured by the weather station in Santa Lucía.

This Wednesday is shaping up to be a wintry day throughout the region. In addition to showers and rain, there will be moderately strong northern winds and rough seas along the northern coast. At 7:15 am, the weather station in Bahía Honda, Artemisa, recorded a maximum gust from the north of 59 km/h. By 8:50 am, the Casablanca station in Havana reported a maximum gust of 60 km/h.

Minimum temperatures ranged from 17 to 20°C, with the lowest recorded at 15.4°C in Indio Hatuey, Matanzas. As of 11:00 am, satellite images indicated a predominance of clouds over the west and parts of the central region.

For the remainder of the day, the aforementioned cold front is expected to linger with slow movement over the western national territory as it begins to weaken, likely leading to more showers and rain, mainly in interior and northern coastal areas, as noted by INSMET.

Elsewhere in the archipelago, precipitation has been minimal due to high-pressure influences. As time progresses, the front will become stationary and start to weaken, reducing both winds and sea conditions.
