This morning, the Antonio Guiteras power plant rejoined Cuba's national grid after being offline for four days. At precisely 7:44 a.m. on Wednesday, the plant was successfully reconnected, as announced by the Unión Eléctrica (UNE) on their social media platform.

The plant had been disconnected from the electrical network since Saturday morning due to a technological failure in its boiler. According to state journalist José Miguel Solís, the facility ceased operations at 9:59 a.m. because of malfunctioning control valves, ending a 45-day stretch of continuous service.

The Guiteras power plant is projected to generate approximately 270 megawatts, which could partially ease the energy shortage affecting the island. On Tuesday, engineer Rubén Campos Olmo indicated that the plant might synchronize with the grid during peak demand hours on Wednesday, provided the weather conditions were suitable, as some maintenance tasks were being performed outdoors.

"We have the personnel, resources, and determination to work tirelessly. Hopefully, the weather doesn't turn against us," stated Campos Olmo.
