On Tuesday, Cuban-American Marco Rubio paid tribute to his Latin roots as he officially assumed the role of U.S. Secretary of State. He became the first member of Donald Trump's cabinet to be sworn into office. During the oath-taking ceremony, Rubio briefly spoke in Spanish to honor his parents, Cuban immigrants who arrived in the United States in 1956, and to express his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the highest position in American diplomacy.

The oath was administered by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who highlighted Rubio's career and his deep love for the country. "Marco is one of my favorite people in Washington. He is the son of Cuban immigrants and grew up in very humble surroundings, yet he possesses an incredibly profound love for our nation. He is a seeker of bipartisan solutions and a conservative with strong principles," Vance stated during the ceremony.

Speaking in Spanish, Rubio was visibly moved and conveyed his appreciation. "I want to thank God, my family, and my family who are not here with us, my parents who came to this country in 1956 so that we could live the dreams that were not possible for them," Rubio remarked. "It is an incredible honor to be the Secretary of State of the most powerful and benevolent country in the history of all mankind. It is a great honor, and I thank President Trump for this opportunity," he added.

As the 72nd Secretary of State, Rubio stressed that the Trump Administration's priority would be to advance U.S. interests, ensuring that both the government and the State Department work towards making the country stronger, safer, and more prosperous. "This is a time of transformation. As President Trump noted in his inaugural address, we are moving toward a new era that will make the world a safer place," Rubio expressed, as he was set to address employees upon arriving at the State Department today.

Moreover, Rubio emphasized that one of the key goals of the Trump administration's foreign policy is the promotion of peace while upholding the nation's core principles and values. The U.S. Senate unanimously approved Rubio's confirmation as Secretary of State just hours after Trump's inauguration.

With his appointment, Rubio becomes the first American of Hispanic descent to hold this esteemed position.
