A young Cuban woman was discovered deceased last Saturday in the area known as Fraccionamiento Los Héroes Coacalco, located in the State of Mexico. Authorities found the body in the home she shared with four other Cuban migrants.
The victim, identified as Yenisleydis Gutiérrez Brito, had been residing in Coacalco for several months, according to reports from the Mexican press. Originally from the province of Matanzas, she was an optometrist and was awaiting an opportunity to travel to the United States to reunite with her husband.
On December 27, Gutiérrez Brito expressed her eagerness to leave Mexico by writing on Facebook, "How much longer, Mexico? You are beautiful, but my time here should end soon," highlighting her desire to reach the United States swiftly.
Family members reported her missing on January 13, when she stopped answering phone calls. Yenisleydis Gutiérrez, who was the mother of a child still in Cuba, had secured a job at a tortilla shop in Coacalco and was known among the local residents.
Following the discovery of her body, both her husband and brother voiced their outrage on social media, pointing to her housemates as the alleged perpetrators of her death. They called for justice and urged the State of Mexico authorities and the National Institute of Migration (INM) to find the suspects.
"These individuals are accomplices and responsible for my sister Yenisleydis Gutiérrez's death. They hid like rats when they stopped answering the phone, changed their numbers, and shut down their social media," wrote her brother, Yordanys Gutiérrez, who lives in Texas.
"They disappeared since Monday when she stopped answering the phone. They changed their number, closed social media, and hid like the rats they are," Gutiérrez added in his social media plea.
Edgar López, the young woman's husband, shared a heartfelt farewell on social media: "Today is incredibly difficult for everyone, and sorrow is breaking many hearts globally. The pain and suffering will never leave our hearts. Your departure is a profound shock for all. You are in heaven today, and I will never forget you. As I always called you: my Louse, my spoiled one, my queen, my stubborn one."
The State of Mexico’s Office of the Prosecutor General of Justice (FGJEM) confirmed that investigations are underway to clarify the events and assign responsibility where due.
At the time of this report, no further information is available about the tragic discovery of the young Cuban woman's body.
In late 2024, social media also reported the disappearance of another Cuban woman, Lorena Rosabal Guevara, 28. Her family lost contact with her while she was en route to San José el Hueyate in the municipality of Mazatán, Chiapas, near the Guatemalan border.
