Cuban in Finland: Experiencing the Midnight Sun in "One of the World's Most Beautiful Places"

Tuesday, January 21, 2025 by Richard Morales

At 12:30 in the middle of the night, with the sun still illuminating the sky, a Cuban known on TikTok as Kiko the Cuban, expressed his amazement at experiencing this phenomenon in Finland, a country where the sun barely sets during the summer. "Who would have told me, a Cuban from Las Tunas, born in Santa Librada, where mud reached up to my chest, that I would be here in one of the most beautiful places in the world in Finland, at half-past midnight with this incredible sun shining in the middle of nowhere?" he mused in his video.

While sharing the post on his account @leo.d.duarte, he couldn't help but express gratitude for the moment he was experiencing: "Thank God, for the great opportunities, for the wonderful people who come into our lives, for the beautiful moments, and for never lacking joy," he wrote, accompanied by hashtags like #free, #happy, and #fearlesstosuccess.

The scenery surrounding him was a seemingly endless forest, and the light at that hour left him speechless. "Just forest, a madness, a madness, my people," he added while showing the clock to verify that it was indeed past midnight.

His post has sparked dozens of reactions, with followers expressing admiration and curiosity about living in such a different place. Some commented: “Spectacular, what beauty”; “We should go there then”; while others recalled similar experiences: “That happened to me in Tunisia when I saw the sun at 4 in the morning. It's incredible.”

Kiko took the opportunity to answer questions about life in the north. When asked about the famous six months of darkness, he humorously replied: “Exactly, the other six months are in black and white, just snow and darkness, but a wonder with the lanterns in the trees.”

From Santa Librada to Finland, Kiko's experience is yet another testament to how Cubans can adapt and relish the extraordinary, even thousands of miles away from home.
