The individuals suspected of violently robbing a 15-year-old in Cárdenas, Matanzas, have been apprehended by the police, as confirmed by a source linked to the Ministry of the Interior. The alleged perpetrators are identified as Dairon Roque Perdomo, Oniel Hernández Díaz, and Dairon Letourneaut Utria, according to the state-affiliated profile “Con Todos La Victoria.”

The trio is accused of forcibly stealing a mobile phone, a watch, and shoes from a teenager in Parque Martí, located in the city of Matanzas. Notably, two of the arrested individuals have previous criminal records: Hernández for possession of a sharp weapon, and Letourneaut for violent robbery, burglary, livestock theft, and home invasion.

Authorities recovered all the stolen items from the homes of the suspects and returned them to the rightful owner. The theft of mobile phones has become increasingly common in Cuba, contributing to a surge in crime that has heightened social insecurity and left the public on edge.

This week, a security camera captured a mobile phone theft in a Havana café, perpetrated by an individual later identified by victims of previous thefts at other commercial venues in the capital. The thief employs a consistent method: he enters a location to make a purchase and, when the staff is momentarily distracted, he seizes the phone.

Homeowners and business operators in Cuba have resorted to installing surveillance equipment to document criminal acts and facilitate the apprehension of offenders, due to insufficient police response when incidents are reported.

Last November, a visually impaired man was attacked by four teenagers while seated on the sidewalk near his home in Cárdenas, Matanzas, according to a family member's report. One of the assailants was armed with a knife.
