Cuban authorities have seized a truck transporting 42,900 cartons of eggs without proper legal documentation on the National Highway at kilometer 141, in the municipality of Jagüey Grande, Matanzas. The officialist Facebook page "Con Todos La Victoria" reported that the operation took place on the afternoon of Monday, January 13. The vehicle, which originated from Cienfuegos, was en route to Havana.
The driver, identified as Dayron Medina Hernández, along with the cargo representative, Mario Sergio García Villegas, claimed that the eggs were loaded from three poultry farms in the southern province and were intended for a small business in the capital. Nonetheless, they failed to provide any valid documentation to authenticate the transaction or the final destination of the shipment. The only document produced was an invoice with cross-outs and without signatures.
Further investigations by the Cienfuegos authorities uncovered that the eggs were originally earmarked for social use but had been diverted. The driver and his associate have been taken back to the province where they will face criminal charges.
