Cuban Innovator Crafts Unique Driving Simulator: "Where's the Brake?"

Sunday, January 19, 2025 by Abigail Marquez

A young Cuban has captured the attention of social media users with his inventive and resourceful approach to building a driving simulator that is as unique as it is unconventional. Using a sewing machine pedal, a computer mouse, an old computer, a piece of hose, some worn-out cardboard, and a vintage cabinet, he has brought to life a "vehicle" that is making waves on TikTok.

The video showcasing this creative invention was shared by user @rubiercruz, who claims the mastermind behind the simulator is his cousin Rolando. Rolando is a young man brimming with ideas and determination to overcome challenges and enjoy the thrill of driving.

What stands out most is not the simulator's appearance, but how it operates. At first glance, the device features just a single pedal, prompting all sorts of reactions on social media. "Where's the brake?" one user questioned. Another quipped, "Who has ever seen cars in Cuba with brakes?" A third added humorously, "You stop by letting off the accelerator two blocks in advance."

With virtually no budget and a great sense of humor, Rolando has proven that you don't need luxury to dream big... although perhaps a brake would be wise to prevent online mishaps. If there were a world championship for the art of "making do," this Cuban would surely find himself on the podium.
