Renowned singer-songwriter Willy Chirino has expressed his support for opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, who recently voiced criticism about the agreement between the Biden administration, the Vatican, and the Cuban regime. This deal led to the release of 553 political prisoners, a move Ferrer believes ultimately benefits the dictatorship.

"If there is anyone with all the qualities necessary to lead a free Cuba, it is this gentleman from Palmarito, José Daniel Ferrer. God bless you, brother," Chirino remarked in a Facebook post, referencing an article from CiberCuba about Ferrer's statements.

The Controversial Agreement

Ferrer was released from prison on Thursday after spending three and a half years behind bars. Shortly thereafter, he shared with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo his disdain for the agreement involving the U.S. government, the Catholic Church, and the Cuban regime. "Based on the wording of the statement released by the regime, it seems as if they were defeated in three rounds, as if by chance they decided to gift freedom to the 553 prisoners. If Biden and the Vatican do not deny this, they are playing along... They boast that both Washington and the Pope have done their bidding. They have disrespected us," Ferrer stressed.

A Cycle of Repression

Ferrer further explained to NTN24, "Today they release 553, and in three months, they will imprison five thousand more, including many of those just freed. Then, in another three years, they will release 500, 200, or however many they choose..."

Fighting for Justice

The leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) revealed that he refused to sign a conditional release, standing firm in his innocence regarding the charges brought against him. Upon learning of his release conditions, he rejected them and demanded to remain imprisoned, but was forced to leave. "They threw me out of the prison!" he asserted.

Willy Chirino has consistently called for the release of Ferrer from his base in Miami, applauding Ferrer's defiance and unwavering commitment to justice.
