Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz has issued a stark warning to leaders, indicating that the current year will be anything but easy. He urged them to find solutions to pressing issues "from a revolutionary standpoint." During a meeting with governors and the head of the special municipality Isla de la Juventud, Marrero urged officials to overcome deficiencies even if they lack full preparation.
"The road ahead is challenging. We must tackle it with renewed vigor. While some officials may lack certain knowledge or experience, what's crucial is their eagerness to move forward, listen to the people, and seek alternative solutions from a revolutionary perspective," he asserted.
As reported by Granma, the meeting aimed to ensure that territorial development strategies align with the government's well-known projections to address distortions and revitalize the economy. A significant issue highlighted is the disconnect between the interests of provinces and municipalities and the directives of the central government.
"We are failing to transform these directives into a true working tool that guides us towards our goals," he expressed. "Daily operations should not be marked by improvisation, which leads us away from our intended purpose, and we know this is quite common," he emphasized.
Marrero, acknowledging that the plan to rectify economic distortions and boost the economy has not met expectations, is now placing responsibility on local leaders. In October, during a session with officials undergoing training, he emphasized the "responsibility of the officials" in implementing government projections and stressed the need to strengthen their management skills.
Just days before, during a Council of Ministers meeting, he demanded more "focus" from the leaders and highlighted the "responsibility" of local officials in the process. "We must concentrate on tackling subjective problems, amidst numerous objective difficulties," he added, noting that "there is much sloppy work and many issues that do depend on us, which we are not addressing due to a lack of demand."
