The "Luz de Vida" Community Social Project had a distressing encounter on Monday in Havana's Plaza municipality, when part of a stew meant for vulnerable individuals was stolen. Eusebio Díaz, a member of the project, shared the incident on the Facebook group “Luz de Vida Community Social Project,” explaining that it occurred at La Pelota restaurant, a well-known spot in the city's center.
The event was originally intended to serve 100 people and was organized with the help of delegate Niurka from the Colón Nuevo Vedado Council, who coordinated the distribution of sweets to complement the meal. From the outset, the atmosphere was filled with solidarity, with surprise and gratitude from those learning the food was entirely free.
“Everything was going wonderfully. People were coming back for seconds because they loved it, and those who are usually wandering were happy, content, and grateful,” Díaz recounted. However, the day took an unexpected turn when organizers returned to the kitchen to find that some of the stew had been taken by unknown individuals.
This loss meant that at least 40 people went without their share of the meal. “We suffered a great disappointment. It is a deplorable act and inexcusable,” Díaz expressed, clearly affected by the incident. The project expressed deep regret over the situation, offered apologies to those who couldn't be served, and announced they would not be holding future events at that location due to the circumstances.
Despite the setback, the initiative remains committed to its mission of aiding those most in need, relying on the support and solidarity of the community. In recent days, activists from various provinces have launched charitable efforts to support people suffering from hunger and scarcity, abandoned by the regime.
A group of volunteers in Cárdenas distributed meals and desserts donated by neighbors and local businesses, highlighting community spirit and collective effort during a Christmas overshadowed by economic crisis. In Santiago de Cuba, the San Pedro Mission in Reparto Flores provided a solidarity lunch to 200 individuals last Saturday, including those unable to attend due to health reasons.
In that same province, a group of activists and volunteers, led by writer Yasser Sosa Tamayo and Pastor Darlon Bermúdez, brought a glimmer of hope to 150 needy individuals in Santiago de Cuba.
