The United States Embassy in Cuba issued a warning on Thursday regarding a demonstration organized by the Cuban regime outside its Havana headquarters scheduled for December 20. The embassy advised American citizens residing in or visiting the capital to steer clear of these areas.

Following the announcement of postponed visa interviews originally set for Friday, the diplomatic mission once again urged U.S. nationals to "steer clear of protest zones and large gatherings" and to remain "vigilant of police presence and traffic disruptions."

The statement reiterated that only emergency services would be available, as "roads near the Malecón and the Anti-Imperialist Platform will be closed to traffic," restricting access to the embassy building. "We remind American citizens to avoid areas near protests. Even peaceful protests and large gatherings have the potential to become unpredictable without warning," the embassy cautioned.

The embassy is expected to fully resume its services on Monday, December 23. Visa applicants affected by the cancellation of Friday's appointments will be contacted directly to reschedule.

Following a call for a "combatant people’s march" by Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, marking a decade since the thaw initiated by President Barack Obama, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Brian Nichols reminded the Cuban leader that the only solution for Cuba remains "democracy."

Despite lacking an understanding of democracy, the regime continues to promote the march with enthusiasm, while many citizens question the purpose of such a mobilization during the country's severe economic crisis. Widespread blackouts, shortages of food and medicine, rampant inflation, and overall hardship paint a grim picture as the nation faces an even harsher year ahead.

In addition to the wave of criticism and public outrage over the regime's outdated call to action, Cubans have responded with satire, saying "let Sandro go," referring to the lavish lifestyle of Fidel Castro's ostentatious grandson, who boasts of being a "young revolutionary."
