A Soviet-made Moskvitch vehicle was involved in a crash early Friday morning, colliding with the wall of the first bridge leading into Buenaventura, located in Calixto García municipality in the province of Holguín. A member of the Facebook group 'Accidentes Buses & Camiones' reported the incident, sharing photos of the aftermath. "At the entrance to Buenaventura, Calixto García municipality, Holguín province. A Moskvitch. I have no further details," the user stated.

The shared images revealed the car's severe damage, with its bodywork deeply deformed and the front end compressed, much like an accordion, as described by eyewitnesses. The state-run Radio Juvenil identified the driver as Alexis Barreras, a resident of Villa Magalis neighborhood, also known as La Mananina. According to the station's website, Barreras sustained injuries and was initially taken to the local hospital before being transferred to provincial medical facilities for more specialized care.

Preliminary reports indicate that the collision occurred when Barreras attempted to overtake a horse-drawn vehicle. He lost control of his car upon noticing an oncoming vehicle, leading to the impact with the bridge wall. Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise causes of the accident. The damaged vehicle has been removed and taken to the nearby police station.

This incident adds to a series of similar accidents in the region. In late April, a modern car, believed to be a Volkswagen, ended up hanging off a bridge known as La Rioja, identified by a user in the comments section as being in the town of Buenaventura, Calixto García municipality. Despite the dramatic images, the vehicle's occupants emerged unharmed. "Everyone survived this accident in Holguín," the reporting Facebook user noted in the group's 'Accidentes Automovilísticos en Cuba'.

In mid-November, a tractor carrying eleven people, including three children, fell from a bridge near the Ernesto Che Guevara mining company in Moa, Holguín. Although there were no fatalities, all passengers were injured, with four, including a four-year-old girl, reported in critical condition.

Additionally, a tragic incident occurred in mid-February on the Masó - Las Mercedes road in Bartolomé Masó municipality, specifically at the Río Yara bridge in Granma. The driver lost control of a truck, resulting in the vehicle plunging off the bridge and leaving seven people injured.
