A cold front is projected to impact the western region of Cuba by Wednesday, with its effects likely to persist through the weekend. Meteorologist Raydel Ruisanchez shared via Facebook that increased cloudiness accompanied by scattered showers and rain is anticipated, alongside coastal swells to the north.

"Temperatures will start to drop on Thursday, bringing about wintry days and chilly mornings as the week concludes," Ruisanchez specified.

According to the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), in its Monday report released at 11:00 am, Cuba and its surrounding seas continue to experience the influence of migratory high pressures originating from continental sources, with the center positioned near Florida's peninsula. This results in a dry air mass prevailing over the Cuban archipelago, significantly reducing rainfall across much of the territory.

Nevertheless, northeast winds from the anticyclonic system facilitate the movement of clouds from the sea toward eastern regions. When these clouds interact with local conditions, isolated showers are stimulated, particularly along the northern coast.

On Sunday, temperatures were notably low, ranging from 16 to 19 degrees Celsius (°C) in the western areas and between 20 and 23 °C elsewhere, with even lower temperatures inland. The lowest temperature recorded was 9.6 °C at Indio Hatuey, Matanzas.

This afternoon and evening, partial cloudiness will dominate the central and eastern areas, with some showers and rain spreading from the northern coast of Camagüey to Guantánamo.

Understanding Cuba's Weather Patterns

What is causing the cold front in Cuba?

The cold front is being influenced by migratory high pressures of continental origin located near Florida, which lead to a dry air mass and reduced rainfall over Cuba, allowing the front to advance.

How will the cold front affect temperatures in Cuba?

Temperatures are expected to decline starting Thursday, leading to wintry conditions and colder mornings towards the end of the week.

Which areas in Cuba will experience the most significant weather changes?

The western region of Cuba will be primarily affected by the cold front, with increased cloudiness and potential showers, especially along the northern coast.
