Cuban-American politician Marco Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, proudly acknowledged on Wednesday his confirmation as the Secretary of State in the second term of President-elect Donald Trump. In a message on the social media platform X, Rubio stated, "Leading the State Department is a tremendous responsibility, and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me. As Secretary of State, I will work tirelessly to implement his foreign policy agenda."
The senator emphasized that, under Trump's leadership, his mission will be to achieve "peace through strength" and asserted that his efforts will always be centered on defending the interests of American citizens and the United States. Known for his strong stance on issues such as China, Cuba, and Iran, Rubio has been a pivotal figure in the Republican Party's foreign policy for several years.
Although his name was previously considered for the vice presidency, Rubio's appointment to the State Department underscores Trump's intention to establish a foreign strategy characterized by the active defense of U.S. interests. Following the announcement, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart remarked, "This is a historic moment, and there is no one more prepared, more experienced, or more committed to keeping America safe than Marco Rubio."
"He has been on the right side of every major issue since the start of his career and will advance our national security interests. It's about time the U.S. treats adversaries as adversaries and friends as friends. That's finally happening," added Díaz-Balart.
